Why are Australian Children still living in Poverty?
Everyone remembers ex-Prime Minister Bob Hawke’s promise that by 1990 no Australian Child will be living in poverty. However, in 2017 about 17.4% of children under the age of 15 live below the poverty line. Poverty is growing in Australia with an estimated 2.9 million people (13.3%) living below the accepted poverty line. This conference delved into some of the reasons for this entrenched disadvantage and showcased some innovative programs that are helping to break the cycle.
